3.5 Stars.
We made a pit stop here for lunch on our way home from San Jose. Heard about their steaks and prime rib from family and friends. So we wanted to give it a try.
I ordered the 14oz Rib Eye rare. The steak was perfectly cooked to my request. It came with sides of veggies and garlic mashed potatoes which both were tasty and delicious.
My wife ordered the 10oz Prime Rib medium rare. That also came out to her liking.
We both ordered Caesar salad as our side dish. Which I thought it needed more flavor. It definitely didn't taste like Caesar Salad.
As for the service. It was ok. They would come and check on us and fill our empty glasses of water. My only complaint was the three hostesses in front. They come of a little rude and would laugh and giggle while speaking in their language pretty loudly while we waited to be seated.
On a side note they also have a their meat market were you can purchase their steaks to take home. They will actually pack it up with ice and everything for that long drive home.
Overall a pretty good place to stop and eat. -

Just stood at the bar waiting for service
Even asked for service
Got no service
Always stop here when driving 5, no more
Food and drinks a overpriced anyway
Update:
So my wife calls to complain on my behalf, they actually tell her that they looked at the security camera and told her I was never there WTF??
I assure you customer service geniuses that I was there and I got ZERO service.
I wrote the review in your parking lot before I drove to Bakersfield and had a good meal with good service and ZERO B.S. (and a whole lot cheaper too!)
Then the management reaches out to me today on yelp.......
Sorry guys, the crappy review stays, and as much as my wife loved Harris Ranch y'all done pissed her off
So for sure we will never be back (she tends to hold a grudge)
We have had many good meals there and a few drinks too, stayed at the hotel and really enjoyed the Thanksgiving buffet, but there are other places to eat, I can't stand poor customer service and general B.S.
At those price points you should provide some damn service!
Don't bother responding to me again
I don't care if you gave me a free cow, you can tuck that cow into a place that is perpetually void of sunlight -

Nice food, wait a lot ...
I heard that Harris Ranch has nice meat and also a public runway we could use and park our airplane there. You also get 10% off if you bring your pilot certificate.
So we went there an evening, we sat on a tiny table close to the bar and ordered the fancy $22 Burger. I asked it rare and it came actually rare. Which is a good point because it's usually impossible to find meat rare!
Our server was really busy, and clearly not very interested about our table. He never came after serving the food, except to give us the check. We had to ask another server to get a refill of water... -

Cleanest restrooms and a nice gift shop with options for a quick lunch or larger cuts of meats to take home for dinner, pretty plates, cards and other knick knacks. Ample parking. But please be respectful when letting passengers off and do so in the loading area. A tour bus blocked the handicapped parking even when they were told someone was waiting to park there until all the passengers on their bus were able to get off.

Harris Ranch is an oasis in a barren land, approximately three hours north/south of major California cities. It is perhaps expected that a plan to dine here would be constituent of a road trip, or a bathroom break gone fantastically extended. Both have been true in my case; I went to college in Southern California, so visiting my family in Northern California *always* included lunch at Harris'. However, this review is about that one crazy day my fellow carnivorous colleague and I drove to Coalinga and back... solely for a steak meal.
It was my "goodbye tour" as I prepared to bid farewell to the Golden State, and this peer of mine suggested a familiar trip to Harris' in San Francisco. I suggested instead we venture closer to the "source", and for all you I-5 travelers, you know exactly what I mean (roll up the windows and circulate the A/C!). Two and a half hours later, appetite a-blazing, we pulled into what continues to be the best-smelling parking lot I have ever known; there is often something delicious slow-cooking by the entrance.
Though it does not bear repeating, this is not Harris' in San Francisco! Forget the fancy getup and reservations. Look at this place instead as the mecca without which we wouldn't have Harris' in San Francisco. It is a place to kick back and relax, ever fitting after a lengthy drive. We were seated in the lounge/bar area (the better choice of dining rooms in my opinion), and immediately started our lunch service with a couple crisp beers.
With a quick glance at the menu, we were set on the 24oz bone-in ribeye, medium rare, with sides of mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables. Look no further than the attached photo: what arrived at our table was a skillfully cooked, tender and juicy fortress of protein. Lunch was a pleasant moment of silence to enjoy every bite, with of course a couple more beers.
After the feast, we took a stroll around the grounds to get the blood pumping, paying visits to both the inn and gift shop. I have yet to stay at the inn, but it is well-advertised and looks like a nice place to wind down after conquering a slab of beef. An experience for another day, no doubt, and given that this page accounts for both the restaurant and inn, I will for now extend my enthusiastic recommendation with 4 stars.
If you are a newcomer or an occasional traveler who has seen this place before, do stop by next time. A steak lunch or dinner is an experience. It is a combination of service, presentation, good fellowship, and enjoyment. The fanciest steakhouses of storied reputation abide by these standards well. Harris Ranch takes an informal approach to this experience without compromising on quality. Until next time! And may your next road trip have steak.
